 All Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU) of Rajgarh in Dibrugarh staged a protest

ATASU central committee joint secretary Milan Buragohain, vice-president Debojit Gogoi, Dibrugarh district general secretary Rupom Gogoi were among those who participated in the protest along with over 200 ATASU members. 

“Our protest is against the hollow promises of the BJP government regarding granting of ST status to the six communities of Assam, including the Tai Ahoms. It was also a poll promise of PM Narandra Modi   during the election campaign in Assam. The BJP has been winning election after election since 2014 by riding on the false promise of granting ST status. Eight years have passed but still there is no clarity on the issue,” ATASU joint secretary Milan Buragohain said. 

ৰাজনৈতিক বিশেষজ্ঞসকলৰ মতে, ছয়টা জনগোষ্ঠীকে অনুসূচিত জাতিৰ মৰ্যাদা প্ৰদান কৰিলে অসম চৰকাৰী জনজাতীয় ৰাজ্য হোৱাৰ পথ প্ৰশস্ত হ’ব কাৰণ ৰাজ্যখনৰ ৫০% তকৈ অধিক জনসংখ্যা অনুসূচিত জাতি শ্ৰেণীৰ অন্তৰ্গত হ’ব। বিধানসভা সমষ্টিৰ সতেজ সীমা নিৰ্ধাৰণ কৰি ১২৬ জনীয়া অসম বিধানসভাত বৰ্তমানৰ ১৬ খনৰ পৰা প্ৰায় ৮০ খনলৈ জপিয়াই পৰাৰ সম্ভাৱনাও অনুসূচিত জাতিৰ বাবে সংৰক্ষিত বিধানসভাৰ আসনৰ সংখ্যাও বৃদ্ধি পোৱাৰ সম্ভাৱনা আছে।
